Sex, Marriage and the modern Japanese woman

I came across this interesting blog post and another fantastic blog carrying interviews with Japanese women concerning the state of their sex lives after marriage.

Pingmag has an interview with Sumie Kawakami who is the author of 'Goodbye Madame Butterfly: Sex, Marriage and the Modern Japanese Woman'. Sumie has spent two years researching for her book and interviewing Japanese women on sex and marriage related issues.

Basically the long and short of this whole matter is that the Japanese dont really seem to do it all that often. While you can get the juicy details and understand a bit more of the Japanese society, here is an interesting statistic to sleep on.

Pharmaceutical company Bayer AG conducted an online survey in 2006, which found that 38,8 percent of couples questioned didn’t have sex in the past year. Sexlessness had little to do with age - 47 percent of those in their 30s, 46 percent of those in their 40s and 50 percent of those in their 50s said they were sexless.

Highly stressful work lives with unreasonable job timings have taken their toll on sex lives for married couples and this is especially true when the woman of the family also goes to work. For man y women, sex (with their husbands) was too much work what with his very late working hours and even early morning work timings.

Well, no wonder Japan is fast becoming an ageing society despite having one of the world's most booming sex and pornographic industry.
